How Much RAM Does a VPS Need?
Sizing guidance for websites, bots, Minecraft servers, databases, and business apps.
01
Websites
Small static sites and low-traffic WordPress installs can run on 1 GB to 2 GB of RAM. Heavier CMS sites, ecommerce stores, or multiple sites should start closer to 4 GB and scale from real monitoring data.
02
Discord bots
Most Discord bots are light on RAM and can run on 512 MB to 1 GB if they are simple. Bots with databases, queues, media processing, or many guilds should use 2 GB or more.
03
Minecraft servers
A small vanilla Minecraft server can start around 2 GB, while Paper or Purpur servers with plugins often need 4 GB to 8 GB. Modded servers and large communities need more memory plus strong single-core CPU performance.
04
Databases
Databases benefit from memory because caching reduces disk reads. For production use, leave enough RAM for the database cache, the operating system, and backups or maintenance tasks.
05
Business applications
Business apps should be sized for peak usage, background jobs, and growth. Start with enough headroom to avoid swapping, then monitor CPU, RAM, disk latency, and response times.
